In the Phonogram Ltd. music studio, the popular Congolese Rumba band Les Mangelepa is finishing a session. Things are going well: they have recorded all the music they planned and still have an hour to kill before giving back the studio keys. How about improvising one last song on the spot?
And this is how ‘Nyako Konya’ was born. A 9 minutes hypnotic jam that’ll eventually become one of their biggest success, earning them a gold record and international acclaim throughout Africa and beyond.
Meticulously restored and remastered by French engineer Nicolas Thelliez, the original version is featured here together with three remixes: French House and Disco producer Yuksek and his wall of sound skills, Netherlands’ world famous studio maverick Umoja delivering a space dub Lee Scratch Perry style, and last but not least, the trademarked syncopated stabs of Brooklyn’s finest Uproot Andy.

Why do you love this album? Well, it is the quality of ALL the Analog Africa releases , the astonishing presentation- artwork, AWESOME booklets, the mastering, the music first of all and the feeling you connect with it and the artists involved. Due to not earning enough I changed from vinyl to CDs, but I am glad for the high quality downloads of the vinyl only releases that you are able to burn to disc. Together with a chosen few others AA is a greater than great label. Period. Markus Bader
